Sharks in the Mountains - Picnic
I woke up late, Mike knocked on my door as I was about to get into the shower, I told him to give me 10 minutes, luckily for me he decided the car should be dried off, so he did that while I took a quick shower and dressed, then we drove over to the place the picnic was last year, we parked with about a dozen other cars that were there, but there was no picnic.
It turned out that the picnic moved to the back side of the hill from last year, where we took the oval track full of sharks pictures last year. One we found it we got in line with all the other cars.
The food spread was as wonderful as always, BBQ Pork, coleslaw, teeny weenies, coffee, soda, cake. They were prepared for the weather, they had the tent walled in with plastic and had 2 heaters running inside so we could go inside to thaw out between walks around the cars. The visibility at the picnic varied, up to about a quarter mile and down to about 200 feet at times. Our fine Sharktrip jackets were perfect for it, if only we could have kept our feet dry..
After the picnic we drove to grandfather mountain in the flouds (fog and clouds, we were over a mile high at that point) they had the back room reserved for us and they had a fire burning and it was quite cozy. They had coffee and cocoa ready for us, so we continued the socializing indoors for a while. Dave and Jeannie handed out some door prizes. As always the presentations were interrupted by everyone making sure that the people that deserved recognition for all their efforts to help the 928 family got the applause they deserved, as it should be.
There was a special prize for the highest ticket coming to the picnic, 36 over won the prize, he said that he was told that he must appear or have representation, bummer. There was also one for farthest drive, an owner from Minnesota won that. After that we were free to have dinner at the restaurant or do whatever we wanted. Since we were still damp and our feet were cold we decided to head back to the hotel for dry clothes and more of the good Italian food.
The police were out in force, the Blue Ridge Parkway is a beautiful stretch of curvy road and running the sharks at 45 is fun but not really exciting, unfortunately they had 0 tolerance for anyone exceeding the limit....'nuff said by me.
We went back to the hotel and had another good dinner, the service seemed to be a little slower tonight, but the food was very good. I had an antipasto for one and a sausage parmesan sandwich, then after a day in the cool fresh air we went back to the rooms to try to get this site up and running.
