Back on the road this afternoon, we decided to just run all the way home today and have all day tomorrow to recuperate and rest before work.
We had some breakfast at Perkins before we left Memphis then pressed on north, we have a lot of driving ahead of us today, but we've been getting a lot of practice at long runs on this trip and with the 2 hour driver trades we haven't had any problems..
We stopped at Lamberts in Sikeston MO, home of the throwed roll for dinner, this time we both had to have the jowl, Mike even took a picture of it, which entertained the group of young cuties across the aisle.
We rolled into a Texaco for gas and as we're fuelling a guy wanders out of the station, up to the nose of the car and stares at the badge, mumbles "that explains it" apparently to himself but loud enough for us to hear, then hollers at the windows, "It's a Porsche!" Then the woman who works there comes out and walks up, asking what model it is, how much it costs… She said she wants a 911 Carrera, I told her they were OK, but I had to put my plug in for the 928, the first Porsche designed from a clean sheet of paper, and I explained the near perfect weight distribution and blah blah since she worked at a gas station and was talking cars I figured she knew something about them. Then she noticed the logo on the shirt, and I explained the shark nickname because of the way the headlights lay back and that I only knew of 2 models of cars that had lights like that, the 928 and 968 Porsches, but that the 968 was only a 4 cylinder. She was surprised that Porsche made any cars with 4 cylinders and I said sure and started naming models starting with the 356 and going up to the 968. We talked cars for a couple more minutes while I finished filling the tank and Mike paid for it inside, I gave her a card with the site address, then we slid in and hit the road…
We finally made it to Mike's house, end of the trip at 02:00. The GPS said we drove 3545.8 miles in 55:49:46, the odometer said we did 3536.3 miles, not bad 9.5 miles difference in 3500...
